CompleteQA is the most complete, powerful
Quality Assurance/Quality Control tool set available for

RESYMBOL was originally created to change
MicroStation files from one drafting standard to another (see
RESYMBOL as a problem Solution Tool), but now it is used more
often as a QA/QC Tool.
Define your Standard (create rules by one of
four easy methods). Check your files (batch or interactive).
Resolve the problems (queued edit). Make the corrections (batch or
interactive). The rules - we call them the "golden rules"
because they are so easy to create and so very useful - are used
for checking, then used to specify corrections. All similar
elements are treated together, so you need to look at and resolve
only one example of each problem. The same rules are also used in
the other associated QA/QC tools: QuikChek, QA_Input,
SpotChek/Sot_Fix, SnapChek. RESYMBOL is also a very powerful tool

RESYMBOL is an amazingly powerful and flexible
tool for analyzing and modifying MicroStation design files (also
often used for QA/QC). Create rules by one of four easy methods.
Rule have a "FROM" (selection criteria) and a "TO"
part. Use the "TO" to change level, weight, color, font,
scale, text string, text justification, replace cells and more.
Process a single file or an entire batch. Easily view all
occurances of any particular element defined by a "FROM".
Database linkages, database values, or tag data can be used for
element selection.

Cascade helps you establish a hierarchical
structure in your rule file. This allows access to rules (items in
your Standard) from a fly-out menu with logical categories and
sub-categories, instead of from a long, scrolling list-box.

Elimination of invalid symbology (using QuikChek
or RESYMBOL) is very important but there may be other errors which
this does catch. Proofreading is still required, and SpotChek or
Spot_Fix can help. Users may have checked a file by turning off all
levels but one, and reviewing the content to try find things that
should not be there. SpotChek is much more powerful. It allows the
user to view all elements, but to highlight those of immediate
concern - either more or less than a level, as desired.

Use DGN_Diff when you need to know the differences between two
editions of the same file (to confirm corrections were done,
etc.). The files are viewed side by side with all identical
elements gray, and the differences in color. Modifications in one
color and Add/Deletes in another. The special viewing utility
allows synchronized Window and Zoom of the two views.

GridScan is a tool for systematically viewing
files. It establishes a grid, and allows the user to go from grid
space to grid space, ensuring none of the file is missed when
proofreading is done. GridScan is intended for the user who needs
to review a design file in detail. To do this effectively, the
viewing scale must be appropriate. All of the drawing must be
viewed, and none missed. The user does not want to waste time
looking at the same data more than once.

QA_Input is a dynamic menuing system, based on a
Standard, to set drawing parameters such as level, weight, color,
style, font, text size, active cell, etc. Selection of items from
the standard is made quick and easy by use of a "cascaded"

and/or use placement macros.

QuikChek uses the Standard (rule file) to check
the active MicroStation file to ensure all data entry has used
valid drawing parameters. Errors are corrected by category rather

based on the powerful RESYMBOL product, but is tailored for this
task, and requires very little training.

Have you ever been annoyed because Saved Views
do not save the settings for reference files? XSavView (Extended
Saved Views) saves these settings. No longer will you spoil plots
because you forgot to turn a reference file level off or on. Use
XSavView and get the same display every time. With XSavView the
settings for all views in all open (active or reference) files are
saved, as are the coordinates of any active fence. When the saved
view is restored, the user can specify what to restore. Choices
include which views to restore, which views to put them in, and
whether or not the fence is to be restored.

Metric Conversion of MicroStation files is one
use for TRNSFORM, but it can be also used to change Working Units
and Global Origin. Elements are scaled and repositioned on the

Have trouble with copies of elements piled on top of each

For big oopses this little utility will save the bacon. Bring
back deleted elements (which will still be in the file until it is
compressed). Don't restore all deleted elements - you can be very
explicit as to the location, (indicated with a fence), and the
characteristics elements you want can be described in the amount
of detail you want - element type, level, color number, etc. Only
elements meeting the criteria will be presented to you for
possible Undelete.

SnapChek eliminates overshoots and undershoots, and creates
perfect intersections between lines. Unlike many competing
products, SnapChek will even do this with arcs and curves! A
sophisticated viewing function allows easy correction of any
problems not fixed automatically. Both 2D and 3D files can be
processed, active and reference files are processed together.
Setup is simplified by using features defined in the RESYMBOL rule
file, and the setup is stored in the rule file.
This addition integrates the entire QA/QC tool set: QA_Input
(as a menu for drawing creation); QuikChek (for finding and fixing
invalid symbology); SpotChek and Spot_Fix, (tools to assist in
proofreading), and finally SnapChek. All these tools need RESYMBOL
rule files in order to run properly.

Do you use Tag Data, Associative Dimensioning, or other
Associative Element Links? These cannot be copied correctly from
file to file by normal means. The associativity gets lost. After a
merge it is possible to read a tag which looks OK, but is the
wrong one! (very scary!) MergeAll allows associate linkages to be
merged or copied from file to file. Download an evaluation copy
and give it a try.

Enhance the effectiveness of QuikChek and RESYMBOL by adding
this "watcher" program. OverVuQC will automatically
invoke QuikChek in a special "silent mode" when
specified MicroStation design files are closed. It tells the
operator of the percentage of compliance to the standard and also
leaves a QC element in the file for Resymbol to detect for
reporting purposes. This constant update of the QC element greatly
enhances the QC reporting capability of RESYMBOL as a management
tool.
